INTERVIEW PROCESS

A folder that says HR shows paper sticking out of it. An arrow points to a photo that's ringing to the right that has HR calling.

Step 1: Virtual Meet or Call with Someone from HR (15-20 mins)

The interview process begins with a phone call from a member of Prospector’s Human Resources team. Let’s get to know each other! We will ask questions about your passions and hobbies, previous work or volunteering experiences, availability, and which job(s) excites you. We also will ask the hardest question of all: what is your all-time favorite movie?

Step 2: In-person Interview with More Prospects (20-30 mins)

The next step in the process is an in-person interview with a few more members of the Prospector team. We will ask questions about your past experiences, reasons why you would make a great Prospect, and begin to discover which jobs might be a good fit. This step may be completed alone or with a guardian. We’re excited to get to know you better!

Step 3: Shadow Interview with Prospects on the Job (2 hours)

This is similar to a "job audition"! We’ll show you behind-the-screens and you’ll shadow Prospects at their job(s). This is a great time to ask Prospects questions about their work, and even try some tasks if you are comfortable. Dressed in black pants and a black shirt, you will look just like our team. If the shadow interview goes well, we will offer you a job!

Success Stories

Ali applied to the Prospector in 2017 after graduating from college. She was struggling to land a job despite multiple interviews in the education field. After confirmation from the Theater that her application had been received, Ali decided to “go the extra mile” and make sure her application stood out among the rest. She submitted a “piece of sparkle” in the form of a multi-decade illustrated poem about the journey of one’s experience at the movies. Upon reading her poem and interviewing her, the HR team knew right away that Ali was destined to join the Prospector! It was clear to us that she was smart, talented, driven, and empathetic.

Ali is now the Usher Lead, a projectionist, and an AAC change-maker! AAC, or Augmentative and Alternative Communication, means all of the ways that someone communicates besides talking. People of all ages can use AAC if they have trouble with speech or language skills. Augmentative means to add to someone’s speech. Alternative means to be used instead of speech. Some people use AAC throughout their life. Others may use AAC only for a short time, like when they have surgery and can’t talk.

Ali leads her team with compassion and humility, empowering her fellow Prospects to “sparkle.” Ali has been asked to speak at multiple AAC conferences, both virtually and in person. Ali is a true Prospect success story!

Hired as the first Prospect back in 2014, Emily Haughney spent nearly a decade at the Prospector. Her career at the Theater started out a little bumpy. Emily struggled to find her “sparkle,” which led to some frustrations and a handful of HR meetings. With guidance from her family, her friends, and her fellow Prospects, Emily worked hard and persevered. She pushed herself to try new things, stepped out of her comfort zone, and followed her “sparkle.”

Emily worked in almost every department at the Prospector during her tenure. She was a natural usher, a quick learner on the registers, and an empathetic coworker. Emily’s bubbly personality and her ability to remember everyone’s name enabled her to become very popular with Prospects and guests alike. She would greet each and every guest with a smile. If she had met you before, she would ask about your family or remember you had just returned from a trip. Emily had an uncanny memory!

Emily has always had a love for children. Her warm personality and caring nature drew kids of all ages to her. With this passion, Emily began working birthday parties and Service Learnings. She learned how to give tours to school groups and how to ensure all children in the building felt safe and comfortable. Eventually, Emily used her amiable character and personal drive to grow in the Human Resources department. She helped interview candidates, distributed paychecks, assisted Prospects during their shift, and trained others on various job tasks.

While Emily loved her time in Service Learning, events, HR, and on the floor, she knew deep in her heart that her true calling was elsewhere. In October of 2023, Emily followed her dreams and was offered a position at a local daycare. While she knew it would be difficult to leave her Prospector family, she was confident that her growth and skills she accrued over the past 9 years would help her succeed in her next journey. Emily is grateful for all she has learned, and the Prospector is proud to see her flourish in the community. Sparkle on, Emily!

Looking to leave New York City and find their “forever home” in the suburbs, the Showah family visited the Prospector in 2016. Brooklyn, then 9 years old, and her parents instantly fell in love with the Theater and its mission. They knew right then and there that if the town of Ridgefield supported such a wonderful place, then this was the town for them.

Brooklyn's mom, Melissa, was hopeful that some day Brooklyn would work at the Prospector, a place where people with disabilities can learn new skills, develop friendships, and show the world their “sparkle power.” Six years later, that dream came true!

Now a High School Graduate from Ridgefield High School, Brooklyn is an integral part of the Prospector team. She shows her "sparkle" as an Usher, in Concessions, and on Clean Team. She has a natural ability to bring a unique energy to the building when she is working thanks to her dynamic personality and infectious smile. It’s not uncommon to see her dancing in the lobby or hear her singing along to the music on the big screen as guests exit after their movie.

What could be better than working at the greatest movie theater in the world and showing your “sparkle” throughout each and every shift? Having your mom work there too, of course! Melissa officially joined the Prospector as our new Events Manager in the Fall of 2022. Mother and daughter working side-by-side, spreading the mission of competitive and inclusive employment!
